Information
Since 1912, the Conway Fire Department has provided emergency services to approximately 40 sq miles inside Conway city limits. Currently an ISO Class 1 rated department, the highest insurance safety rating attainable, the Conway Fire Department offers emergency medical services, specialized rescues, a certified bomb technician team and hazardous materials operations, in addition to fire prevention.
The mission of the Conway Fire Department is to exceed our own expectations through the delivery of excellence in emergency response, life safety and community support.
Fire Marshal
Conway Fire Marshals are committed to providing life safety services, fire education and routine inspections per Fire Prevention Codes. The Fire Marshal Division administers school programs on fire prevention, as well as smoke detector and fire extinguisher training for Conway citizens and businesses.

Training
EMS
The Conway Fire Department operates as an EBLS (Enhanced Basic Life Support) service. All members are licensed Emergency Medical Technicians as a minimum requirement; 15 are Advanced EMTs.
Fire
To maintain high efficiency of service, all fire personnel participate in ongoing continue education in firefighting techniques and consistent research into new and improved tactics and equipment.
Special Operations
Bomb Squad
The Conway Fire Department operates a bomb squad accredited through the FBI; all technicians are required to attend Hazardous Device training in Huntsville, AL. The response area includes Faulkner County and its surrounding communities, but will respond outside the state if called upon.
Hazardous Materials Team
The Conway Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Team, “Hazmat”, serves area residents by responding to chemical emergencies, whether accidental or intentional. All Hazmat team members are highly trained to meet OSHA safety requirements.
Honor Guard
The Conway Fire Department’s Honor Guard participates in events such as firefighter memorial and funeral services, as well as firefighter retirement and awards ceremonies. The Honor Guard also proudly services as a color guard in parades and other like events.
Special Operations Rescue Team (SORT)
The Conway Fire Department’s Special Operations Rescue Team (SORT) consists of a group of fire personnel who are trained in special rescue techniques, areas of which include dive, confined space, swift water, high and low angle, trench, and heavy structure collapse. SORT also includes members of the Arkansas Task Force 1, which may be deployed at any time per the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management.

Entry-level Exam
Monday, April 21, 2025 at the Conway Expo & Event Center located at 2505 East Oak (Hwy 64) Conway, AR 72032. The doors will lock promptly at 9:00 a.m.
Entry test scores are good for one year or until the current list is exhausted.
Physical Agility Exam
Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the Conway Fire Training Facility located at 1525 Sturgis Road, Conway, AR 72034. The gates will lock promptly at 7:00 a.m.

Requirements
Pursuant to Ark. Code Ann. § 14-51-301(b)(1)(B)(i) and § 1, Act 743 of the Regular Session, 2007; no person shall be eligible for appointment to any position in the fire department who has not arrived at the age of twenty-one (21) years or who has arrived at the age of thirty-five (35) years; the maximum age limit for appointment does not apply to any person who has at least two (2) years of previous experience as a paid firefighter with another fire department and whose years of experience as a paid firefighter when subtracted from the person’s age leaves a remainder of not more than thirty-two (32) years. Candidates must:
- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- NOT have felony convictions
- Possess a valid driver’s license
Candidates who receive a passing score on the initial written exam must also pass the following to be considered for employment:
- The physical agility test is ”PASS” or “FAIL” and must be completed within 6 minutes and 30 seconds. In addition to the physical agility test all candidates must complete an aerial ladder climb, the climb is “PASS” or “FAIL” and must be completed within 5 minutes.
- The agility test is held at the CFD training facility (1525 Sturgis Rd). Candidates must arrive by 7:00 a.m. to check in. Gates will lock at 7:00 a.m.
- The Conway Fire Department will contact you when the following documentation is needed – Complete background investigation along with a completed Background Packet with required documentation specified in packet and/or specified by CFD personnel.
- Physical exam performed by CFD chosen physician.
Starting pay for an entry-level firefighter is $47,663 annually.
Educational/Vocational Qualification points (maximum of 5) will be awarded for the following:
- Three (3) points shall be awarded for Firefighter I and II certifications through or approved by Arkansas Fire Academy
- Five (5) points shall be awarded for Arkansas Paramedic License or Nationally Registered Paramedic
- Two (2) points shall be awarded for Arkansas EMT License
